For many years during the Old Kingdom of Egypt the Egyptian
people desired to overcome a small group of people called the Rebu, they had
fought a few battles in previous times but this would be one of the more notable
battles. The Egyptians had their army ready beforehand on the banks of the
great Nile River, the longest river on earth. The Rebu had their footmen and
chariots moving at a good pace so as to arrive on the Nile by morning. Early
the next day the king of the Rebu led his army straight to the Nile, he was
confident in the strategy that he and his councillors had come up with, but he
had slightly underestimated the might of Egypt. By noon the two armies were on
either side of the Nile River, the Egyptian archers took aim and released
hundreds of arrows, those of the Rebu that had shields ducked under them, but
even then many fell. Next the Rebu people fired their arrows, though their bows
were not as ranged as the opposing armies were, still a few fell. After the initial
arrow assault the two armies charged into the river, they were in a shallow
section, and drew swords, though the Rebu archers stayed behind. Before long
the river was stained with the blood of both parties, and this began to bring
in aquatic predators, as men began disappearing and soon many soldiers from
both sides had been devoured by crocodiles. A young Rebu soldier named Jethro
was being dragged deep into the river by one when he struck it with his axe and
it retreated, this angered the Egyptians even more because the crocodile was a
sacred animal in their religion. The Rebu who had had a smaller army at first
began to pull back, but just as the Egyptians were getting the upper hand many,
boats came down the river and the archers on board let their bowstrings loose
and the Egyptians who were already over half way across the Nile were
surrounded, on one side of the river was the remaining Rebu army and on the
other the Rebu armada was gathered, not to mention that men were rapidly being
taken under the water by crocodiles. The Egyptians decided to charge the Rebu
and try to penetrate the army, but did not get very far, they were making
progress from the front but from behind they were being curtailed. The result
of the battle was that the Egyptians were completely defeated and the Rebu had
triumphed but at a great price.
