Oceania

Oceania is an area to the east of Africa, it is mostly composed of islands like Easter Island, New Zealand, and Australia. The few islands that were colonized were populated with natives, as no European settlers had arrived in Oceania in the year of 1750, instead it was colonized by farmers, sailors, and fishermen. These civilizations were relatively late to being developed compared to Europe and these people groups used tools that we would find rather primitive, they were made of bone and stone, such as boomerangs and spears. The people who lived on the islands lived in wooden houses and ate fruit bats, grubs, turtle eggs, and even kangaroos. As for their religion, the islanders worshiped their own ancestors, thinking that they created everything. Easter Island was a small island in Oceania, its native people erected great stone statues in long rows, these are found all over the island along with other artifacts. The assumed purpose of the stone heads was to show the level of power that a chief had over those under him. The area of Oceania was relatively un-established but I think that the small civilizations that did exist are very fascinating.
