Nicolaus Copernicus

Born in 1437, Nicolaus Copernicus was a man who discovered the Heliocentric Theory. It was originally thought for over 1,000 years that the earth was the center of the universe, which was known as the Geocentric Theory, but Nicolaus suggested that the sun was the center, which is the Heliocentric Theory. Niciaus was born in Royal Prussia, a part of Poland, and his father was a merchant, which enabled him to receive a proper education. He did lots of different projects and was always learning and studying things. After showing his friends his ideas, they urged him to publish them. At first he did not do it because of fear of rejection, but finally when he did publish his book, he had internal bleeding and paralysis. On the day he died he received a copy of his life’s work. Even after his death the book about the Heliocentric Theory was seen as a controversy. Although Nicolaus’s book was not accepted by most people, a scientist named Galeleo believed and used Heliocentric thinking and was arrested for his views. At first Nicolaus’s ideas were not popular, but later they were confirmed, and he is remembered as a man who brought dramatic change to astronomy and science.
