The farthest that I have ever been away from home was Burma,
Asia and I went there with my family on a missions trip. The time in Burma was
rather challenging, because we were all very jetlagged and hot, the sun is very
intense there and the air is humid. During the trip we went and saw the
Shwedagon Pagoda, a massive Buddhist temple covered with gold. We also went and
saw the orphanage where we encouraged and interacted with the children. In the
streets of Burma you can see skinny dogs, poverty stricken people, and garbage,
it was very sad to see a place like that in such a low state. We also saw some
fishermen catch fish with nets and we got to see a food garden, with lime
trees, banana trees, and many exotic fruits. My family and I also had time to
see albino Asian Elephants, they were a whitish grey color and I thought they
were very interesting even though they were chained to a large wooden pole. The
places that we saw were educational and interesting and I think that after
observing the poverty, the heat, and the danger there, I am a lot more thankful
that I live on the other side of the world. In Burma there are many thieves who
try to break into houses, that is why almost every house has razor wire on its
fence, or glass if they cannot afford razor wire. The food that we ate in Burma
was very good, I was able to try a Pizza with cuttlefish on it. Every morning
you could look out and see the Buddhist Monks walking down the street to ask
for food. Every time I think about Burma it reminds me how blessed I am to live
where I do and also to pray for those people.
