Probably the most enjoyable part of the 7th grade history year was the time of the Renaissance. Renaissance literally means rebirth, and that is basically what occurred, it was a time of dramatic change in art, inventions, styles, and habits. It started when certain people suddenly did things differently, one of these people was a man named Giotto di Bondone, and he changed the way people thought of art by improving his paintings with unusual colors. Another person who changed peoples thinking was Petrarch, as he influenced the way that people lived their lives. He was likely the first to ride around the countryside just to see the beauty of it, and he climbed a mountain just to see the view from the top, most people would have just gone around it, but not Petrarch.
Some of the greatest painters of the Renaissance were Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Titian, and Donatello, they all painted and/or sculpted some notable pieces of work, and these are highly treasured today.
The Renaissance movement also brought new inventions like the printing press with movable type, this was made by none other than Johnnes Gutenber. The invention proved very beneficial in spreading ideas quickly, as before long broadsheets which were early newspapers began to be sent out. Although this time was great for inventing and art, it proved to also become a very stressful time, because the change was so dramatic and fast that tpeople may not have had enough time to adjust, or perhaps they did not like the new principals altogether, but whatever the reason there was some tension going on in that time. Generally speaking though, the Renaissance turned out to be a great benefit to the people of its time and all the people going forward to this very day.
The reason I like the time of the Renaissance better than most all the other points in history, is because of the innovative ideas that people came up with, for instance, Gutenberg did not have an instruction manual when he invented that printing press, he had to come up with every single detail, and get it to work properly and if you looked at it you would know right away that it would be a great challenge just to think up such a device, but he did! I admire the great thinking it must have taken to picture something like that, and another thing that I admire was that he didn’t have a bunch of pieces and just built it, he had worked it out in his mind how it would go years before he even started to assemble it. That is why the Renaissance is what I remember most about the Ron Paul curriculum 7th grade history year.
