The pilgrims were a group of people who did not believe the same way as their country because James I had made changes that they did not agree with, and they sought for a place they could worship freely. At first the pilgrims went to Leiden, which was a place in Holland, but the pilgrims were not successful there because they were farmers and Leiden was a very urban city. So the pilgrims had to find another place to go. They were attempting to go somewhere across the ocean and Tomas Weston got a chart from the London company which enabled them to go. The pilgrims took a ship called the Speedwell from Leiden back to England but on the way two separate leaks occurred. They began to think that someone was doing it deliberately to get out of going. Finally they reached England and boarded the Mayflower and set sail and cross the ocean. The journey was long and the ship was small quarters. But although it was a very difficult Journey they finally arrived in America in 1620. Before getting off, they signed an agreement called the Mayflower Compact. The Pilgrims are credited with the establishment of one of the first American settlements. The pilgrims went through many trying times but they persevered through their challenges and they were rewarded for their strength and courage.
