St Francis of Assisi

St Francis of Assisi was an influential man and he taught people to be happy in the little things of life. Francis was born to a wealthy family in the city of Assisi and was one of seven children, where all of his brothers went off to war. Francis had a happy life, he was wealthy, and even though he was not a Christian, he gave money to the poor. When he was old enough, he went off to war like his brothers, but while he was there he was caught and taken captive for one year. While he was in prison he had a vision that made him go back to Assisi and become a Christian. He preached to the people and to nature, because he believed that animals should bring glory to God as well. Francis’s family disliked what he was doing and he denounced his father because of it. After a life changing sermon Francis decided to live a life of poverty and humility for Christ, and his followers were called Franciscan Monks. They came with him wherever he went. Francis died singing Psalm 142 on October 3rd 1226 AD. After his death he was made a saint and remembered as St Francis of Assisi. He influenced the Catholic Church greatly and his most notable achievement was founding the Franciscan Order of Monks.
