Born during July, 1266, Giotto di
Bondone was an Italian painter who in his life brought a new style to the art
of painting. Giotto was one of the great artists who contributed to the
founding of the Renaissance age. The way he changed painting, was that he made
the characters in his paintings tremendously life like and also added depth to
them. He impressed many around him, and the Pope asked to see a sample of his
work, so he painted a perfect circle with one stroke of his brush and the Pope
was so amazed, that he said Giotto was the greatest painter in the world.
Before Giotto di Bondone was alive, paintings were very dull and the colors
were brown, orange, and red, Giotto started using brilliant colors such as
bright green and deep blue, this made his paintings all the more fantastic.
Giotto did most of his paintings in the Peruzzi Chapel. He was most famous for
his frescoes, which was a special type of painting done on a slab of still
drying plaster that gave a beautiful affect. By all accounts Giotto di Bondone
was an excellent painter and he is remembered as a significant supporter of the
early Renaissance.
